# Build with AI

> Agent skills, plugins, and machine-readable docs for coding agents working with Revise.

Revise publishes skills that teach coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor,
Copilot, and others) to work with Revise documents, and serves every docs page
as Markdown.

## Quickest start

Paste one line into any agent. It installs or updates the right skill and uses
it.

```text
Read https://revise.io/skills/cli.md and follow it.
```

| Line | Skill | For |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `Read https://revise.io/skills/cli.md and follow it.` | `revise` | Reading, editing, redlining, and converting Word documents with the [`revise` CLI and library](https://revise.io/developer/docs/revise/introduction) |
| `Read https://revise.io/skills/editor.md and follow it.` | `revise-editor` | Building document editors with [`@reviseio/editor`](https://revise.io/developer/docs/editor-sdk/introduction) |
| `Read https://revise.io/skills/collaborate.md and follow it.` | `collaborate-in-revise` | Working with people in live revise.io documents over the [Revise MCP server](https://revise.io/articles/mcp-server) |

## Install the skills

The skills live in [github.com/reviseio/skills](https://github.com/reviseio/skills),
as three plugins in the `revise` marketplace:

- **`cli@revise`**: the `revise-cli` skill, for the `revise` CLI and
  TypeScript library.
- **`editor@revise`**: the `revise-editor` skill, for building editors with
  `@reviseio/editor`.
- **`collaborate@revise`**: the `collaborate-in-revise` skill and the Revise
  MCP server (`https://mcp.revise.io/mcp`).

`cli` and `editor` need no account or connection: the CLI, library, and
editor run on your machine and your servers.

### Quickest, for the CLI skill: any agent with a terminal

```bash
npx -y revise@latest skill install
```

It writes the `revise-cli` skill where your agent reads skills (`.claude/skills` from Claude Code, `.agents/skills` for Codex, Cursor, and others) and prints its path. Read that SKILL.md now and follow it: a running session doesn't load new skills, new sessions do.

The plugins below install all three skills for all your projects and update
with the marketplace.

### Claude Code

```bash
claude plugin marketplace add reviseio/skills
claude plugin install cli@revise
claude plugin install editor@revise   # building an editor
claude plugin install collaborate@revise   # live revise.io documents
```

Update with `claude plugin update cli@revise`, then run `/reload-plugins` or start a
new session.

### Codex and the ChatGPT desktop app

```bash
codex plugin marketplace add reviseio/skills
codex plugin add cli@revise
codex plugin add editor@revise   # building an editor
codex plugin add collaborate@revise   # live revise.io documents
```

Update with `codex plugin marketplace upgrade revise`, then add the plugins again and start a new
thread.

### Cursor, Copilot, Windsurf, Cline, and others

```bash
npx skills add reviseio/skills --skill revise-cli
npx skills add reviseio/skills --skill revise-editor
npx skills add reviseio/skills --skill collaborate-in-revise
```

Update with `npx skills update`.

### From the CLI

The `revise` CLI contains its own skill, matching the installed version:

```bash
revise skill install            # into .agents/skills if that folder exists, else .claude/skills
revise skill install --dir ./skills
revise skill                    # print it
revise skill --reference library   # print a reference file: library, json
```

## Machine-readable docs

- **Markdown version of any page**: add `.md` to its URL, for example
  [`/developer/docs/revise/cli.md`](https://revise.io/developer/docs/revise/cli.md).
- [`llms.txt`](https://revise.io/developer/docs/llms.txt): an index of these
  docs for language models.
- [`llms-full.txt`](https://revise.io/developer/docs/llms-full.txt): every page
  in one document.
- The `revise --json` contract is a JSON Schema shipped in the package:
  `revise/cli-output.schema.json` ([JSON output](https://revise.io/developer/docs/revise/json)).
