## What the Agent Can Do

The Revise agent isn't a chatbot bolted onto a text box - it operates the same document engine you do, so nearly anything you can do in the editor, you can ask for in plain language. This page is the high-level inventory. If you're ever unsure whether the agent can do something, just ask it - the worst case is a polite no.

### Writing & Rewriting

- Draft anything - from a blank page to a full document, in your voice or a specified one.
- Rewrite any paragraph, list, or section - tighten, expand, change tone, fix grammar - with word-level precision, so only the words that change are touched.
- Restructure - split and merge paragraphs, reorder sections, turn prose into lists (or lists into prose), add or remove whole blocks anywhere in the document.
- Work at any scale - one sentence, one section, or an entire 100-page manuscript pass.

### Formatting & Style

- Format any range - bold, italics, underline, highlights, text colors, fonts, and sizes.
- Style whole blocks - promote text to headings, set alignment, adjust list types, or clear formatting entirely.
- Insert rich content - tables, images, code blocks with syntax highlighting, LaTeX equations, and Mermaid diagrams.
- Edit tables structurally - add or remove rows and columns, and revise cell contents.

### Document Furniture

- Headers and footers - ask the agent to put the document title in the header, add "Page 3 of 12"-style page numbers in any corner, or clear a band entirely.
- Footnotes and endnotes - insert citations and notes at the right spot, or convert all notes between footnote and endnote style.
- Page layout - page size, orientation, margins, paragraph spacing, and switching between paged and pageless mode.
- Document metadata - rename the document or keep working notes attached to it.

### Reading & Research

- Navigate long documents efficiently - the agent skims, searches within the document, and reads only the sections it needs, which keeps it fast and light on your usage limit.
- Find your highlights - flag passages with [highlights](https://revise.io/help/editing-basics) and tell the agent "fix the yellow ones".
- Search your other documents - the agent can list, search, and read across your account and folders to pull in context ("check my research folder and cite the relevant studies"). See [Giving the Agent Context](https://revise.io/help/ai-context).
- Search the web - on supported models, the agent can look up current facts and sources while it writes.
- Read what you attach - PDFs, images, and files attached to the chat become working context.
- Measure - word counts, page estimates, and section lengths, useful for "cut this to 500 words" requests.

### Working With You, Not Over You

- Everything is reviewable - edits arrive as green-and-red [suggestions](https://revise.io/help/ai-reviewing-changes) you accept or reject, individually or all at once.
- Word-compatible - those suggestions export to .docx as real tracked changes, so downstream Word reviewers see proper redlines.
- Long autonomous runs - with [Extended Mode](https://revise.io/help/extended-mode), the agent works through big multi-step jobs before checking in.

Tip: The best prompts name the operation and the target: "make the intro punchier", "add a footnote citing the 2024 report after the third paragraph", "put page numbers bottom-right". The agent handles the mechanics.
