# Q3 Launch Plan: Revise Desktop

The desktop app ships to all Pro and Max customers in the third quarter. This plan covers scope, timeline, and the metrics we will use to judge the launch.

## Goals

- Reach **10,000 weekly active desktop users** within 60 days of launch
- Keep crash-free sessions above 99.5%
- Cut median document open time to under 400 ms

## Timeline

1. **Private beta** (July 7): invite 200 customers from the waitlist
2. **Open beta** (August 4): available to every Pro and Max account
3. **General availability** (September 15): default download on the pricing page

## Release checklist

| Area | Owner | Status |
|------|-------|--------|
| Auto-update channel | Platform | Done |
| Offline document cache | Editor | In review |
| Crash reporting | Infra | Done |
| Onboarding tour | Growth | Not started |

## Open questions

Should the beta be gated by *account age* or by *usage*? The growth team prefers usage, since it selects for people who will actually report bugs.

Frequently asked questions

What can I build with the Revise API?

Document editing, review, and conversion inside your own product. Send a document with a plain-language instruction to update a contract, revise a template, add comments, or change formatting, and get back a finished file. The API is headless: all it takes is HTTP requests from your backend.

Does the Revise API support tracked changes?

Yes. Every edit returns two Word documents from the same request: a clean copy with the changes accepted, and a copy with native tracked changes that your users can review in Microsoft Word.

Which file formats are supported?

You can send DOCX, PDF, Markdown, HTML, plain text, RTF, ODT, and images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF), and get back DOCX, PDF, Markdown, HTML, or plain text. Uploads can be up to 18 MiB, and PDFs up to 100 pages.

How much does the Revise API cost?

You pay per request, with no subscription. Every receipt itemizes what a request cost, and you can cap how much a single request may spend.

How is this different from calling an AI model directly?

When you hand a document to an AI model directly, it typically edits the file by writing code in a virtual machine running tools like LibreOffice. Revise doesn't use a virtual machine. It runs on our own document engine, designed for fast and efficient agentic editing in the Revise editor.

Is the Revise API secure?

Yes. Your documents are only accessible to your account, travel over encrypted connections, and are deleted after 24 hours by default, or sooner if you delete them. For an additional layer of protection, you can have output files encrypted with your own RSA public key so only your application can decrypt them.

Which programming languages can I use?

Any language that can make HTTP requests. For TypeScript and JavaScript, the @reviseio/api client uploads your file, waits for the result, and downloads it in a single call. Requests run asynchronously, so you can also poll for status or receive a webhook when a job finishes.

How do I get started?

Create an API key and add funds in the Revise API console, then follow the quickstart. Keep your API key on your backend.
